Ramiro Orrantia

(Kana Bari)

Ramiro, originally from Mexico, embodies over two decades of deep and transformative healing practice. His journey began under the guidance of the elders of the Navajo Nation, where he was immersed in sacred traditions—participating in sweat lodges, tipi ceremonies, vision quests, and the Sun Dance. He is a carrier of the Chanupa (Sacred Pipe), honoring the lineage of the Lakota tradition.
His spiritual quest led him to study under Wixárika elders in Mexico, as well as Queros and Shipibo healers in Peru.

In 2012, he embarked on his apprenticeship with Shipibo maestra Elisa Vargas, later continuing under Maestro Papa Gilberto Mahua in 2016.
Ramiro's journey includes extensive Master Plants Diets as well as continuously deepening his studies of the Shipibo traditions and chanting of their healing icaros. With reverence and humility, he intertwines the wisdom of master plants into his ceremonies, harmonized by his skill as a musician, crafting soulful medicine songs. As a custodian of wisdom across diverse traditions, he facilitates profound ceremonies, guided by the blessings of his teachers.

Rochelle Szmaciarz

Radiates compassion and authenticity as a healer and herbalist. Over the past decade, she has honed her skills as a wildcrafting herbalist, driven by her passion for plant medicine. Her journey led her to the study of shamanism and the embrace of grandmother medicine, beginning her apprenticeship with Papa Gilberto in 2016.  Rochelle's communion with nature has nurtured a unique connection with the trees, plants, and spirits of the forest. As a steward of nature's wisdom, she expands her knowledge through plant dietas, harmonizing mind, body, and soul with the earth's wisdom. Alongside her husband, Ramiro, Rochelle delves into music composition, where her melodic voice becomes a vessel for the plants and divine feminine, weaving a healing tapestry of resonance.

OUR LINEAGE

We are direct apprentices and serve with the blessings of our Maestro, Papa Gilberto Mahua, of the Mahua family. Widely considered to be one of the oldest, most well respected Shipibo lineages of the Ucayali region of Amazonian Peru.

OUR TEACHER

PAPA GILBERTO  MAHUA

Papa Gilberto Mahua is a 76-year-old maestro from the ancient lineage of Shipibo plant medicine, revered as a living legend.

He hails from the famous Mahua family, widely considered to be one of the most ancient and respected Shipibo lineages of Amazonian Peru.

Apprentices in the Shipibo tradition undergo a transformative journey through master plant dietas, forging a profound bond with plant spirits.

Initiated into the healing tradition at a young age, Papa Gilberto completed his first master plant dieta at just 11. For eighteen months he lived in complete isolation in the remote jungle and only saw his father and uncle who guided him and his older brothers through the dieta process.  Over sixty-five years, he has diligently dieted plants, becoming a revered palo maestro—a master curandero known for his unparalleled wisdom and integrity. His ceremonies are marked by perceptive guidance, powerful chants, and compassionate presence, fostering true surrender and healing.

We are deeply grateful to to study under Papa Gilberto, honoring his legacy as properly trained curanderos—an esteemed privilege in the lineage of Shipibo healers.
